Clinical Commissioning Group

NHS Coastal West Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group

Selden Medical Centre is a member of NHS Coastal West Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

The CCG is led by local doctors and health professionals, and is made up of the 56 GP practices across Adur, Arun, Chanctonbury, Chichester, Regis and Worthing.

As part of national changes to the NHS from 1st April 2013, CCGs have taken over responsibility for planning, buying, and checking local health services from primary care trusts.

NHS Coastal West Sussex is now responsible for health and wellbeing of more than 482,100 people.

It is responsible for

  • the care and treatment you may need in hospital and in the community,
  • prescribing,
  • mental health services,
  • and support and services for people living with learning disabilities.

Importantly CCGs are not responsible for primary care, which includes your GP practice, dentists and opticians – these areas are now commissioned by new area teams of NHS England.

What makes a CCG different from the PCT?

CCGs are different from primary care trusts as they are formed from the GP practices in the area they cover. GPs are responsible for the organisation, leading its decision-making and working alongside an experienced local management team to make sure that local services are providing the best possible care for local people.

What about in the rest of West Sussex?

In West Sussex, there are three new clinical Commissioning groups:

  • NHS Coastal West Sussex CCG (which covers Arun, Adur, Bognor Regis, Chanctonbury, Chichester, and Worthing),
  • NHS Crawley CCG,
  • NHS Horsham and Mid Sussex CCG.

Governing body meeting

Next week the CCG holds its latest Governing Body meeting in public.

The meeting will take place at The Causeway in Goring-by-Sea from 3pm to 5pm.

This is the formal meeting of the CCG’s Governing Body and key items on the agenda for discussion are mental health framework, and the CCG’s five year strategy and operational plan.

Members of local patient groups are welcome to attend to hear more about these items and further discussion on local health services across Coastal West Sussex.

Full address for the meeting: 1 The Causeway, Goring-by-Sea, Worthing, West Sussex BN12 6BT
